Greetings grillers! After our recent website redesign, we have decided to start a blog about all things grilling. While the True Wave is our tangible gift to the craft, this blog will be our creative gift to it. From our years of grilling experience we have some exciting ideas to share with you, such as grilling tips and tricks, recipes, and much much more.
True Wave is a family owned and run company, and for our debut post, we thought it would be nice to do an introduction so you can get a glimpse into the faces behind team True Wave. Here we go!
Thomas Gehring
I’m Thomas Gehring and I am a mechanical engineer. I started off with an apprenticeship as a tool and die maker before obtaining my engineering degree, specializing in manufacturing and product design. As a professional engineer, I’ve worked in many places spanning Canada, the US, the UK, Germany, France, and Spain over the last 30 years. I’ve been awarded over 67 US patents, as well as many more globally with a hope to grow that number. In my spare time I like to go camping and hiking, but my biggest passion is BBQ and grilling for my family and friends. I always strive to improve and be creative with food prepared on the grill.
This is where the idea for the True Wave grill topper came from. It all started when our family was grilling up a menu of burgers and bratwursts for dinner at the family cottage. Here, instead of a proper BBQ, we have an oil drum grill where the actual fire is two feet away from the grates. This makes cooking these fatty foods easy, since all the grease that drips down into the fire is too far away for the flare-ups to reach the food. I thought, ‘how can I achieve the same effect at home on a standard grill?’ Thus, I put my engineering expertise to use, and started developing the True Wave grill topper. Here we are today, offering this amazing product to you.
Matthew Gehring
My name is Matthew Gehring and I am the head of True Wave. I am currently studying business in the Rotman Commerce program at the University of Toronto, specializing in management and finance. I love outdoor activities, in particular skiing, ski racing, cooking, and of course grilling. I am also an avid racing fan, having been part of the UofT formula SAE racing team where I helped design, build, and compete against other universities. I’ve traveled to quite a few places in my life so far, with my favourite places to visit being New York City and Berlin. In my travels, I developed my love for trying new and unique foods.
Sylvia Gehring
My name is Sylvia Gehring and I help with the marketing and content creation for True Wave. I am also currently studying business, specializing in accounting and finance, at Ryerson University in the Ted Rogers School of Management. Community volunteering and helping others is a huge part of who I am, so I always try to help out wherever I can. I am also a huge fan of basketball, whether it be watching or playing. In my free time, I like to garden and grow all kinds of plants as well as blogging about food, finance, and life.
